Mammoth Map Showing Texas' Oil Production Network

"Gulf Oil Corporation Postal - Pipe Line - Railway - and Index Map of the State of Texas and Eastern New Mexico",

This mammoth map of the state was published during the heyday of Texas oil production (which peaked in the early 1970s), and was compiled by the Civil Engineering Department of the Gulf Oil Corporation. It reveals a dense oil distribution network across the state from Midland to Dallas/Fort Worth and southeast to Lufkin and Houston. A legend at top provides additional detail including pump stations, pipe lines of varying diameters (3" up to 26"), as well as railroads and post offices. The map is both color-coded by land district and delineated by county with a corresponding alphabetical county listing at lower left. It is decorated by the iconic Gulf logo, which prominently floats off the Texas coast. Circa date is based upon the logo design, which was only used from 1960-64. We found no past sales records or institutional examples of this map.
