This detailed map shows the status of public surveying only five years after Iowa became a state. The eastern half of the state is mostly platted with field notes recorded, while surveying in the western half is either in progress or not yet begun. To the north is Sioux territory with a boundary "by terms of Treaty of July 15, 1830." Completed under the direction of George B. Sargent, Dubuque Surveyor Generals Office.
