This large, handsome map of ancient Greece is based on Nicolas Sanson's work. It depicts Crete, various smaller islands, and Asia Minor and the Turkish coast. Numerous ancient place names, cities, villages, and topography are shown. A decorative title cartouche and a pair of distance scales embellish the map. Although dated 1752, this is the second edition published in 1768, distinguished by changes in the lettering and some of the place names (Sermylia changing to Olynthus, for example). Groux is credited with engraving the cartouche on this state.

References: Pedley #369.

Condition: B+

A nice impression on a sheet with a Damien Tamizier watermark with contemporary outline color and later color in the cartouche. There is light toning, minor dampstaining that enters the border at top, a printer's crease at top, and faint color offsetting.
