Consignor Information

For over twenty-five years Old World Auctions has sold thousands of items for consignors throughout the world. As a specialist auctioneer we provide you a powerful selling format and the ability to reach a large and diverse audience of collectors, institutions, and dealers. Old World Auctions holds four auctions each year, generally in March, June, September and December.

Mercator's Magazine We advertise our sales nationally and internationally in carefully selected publications. Our sale announcements and catalogs go directly into the homes and offices of thousands of prospective buyers. Our Internet site is regularly visited by thousands of interested collectors. Through the years we have fine-tuned our marketing plans, thereby bringing the greatest awareness and highest prices for your items.

Quality consignments of maps, atlases, globes, books related to cartography, books with plates and engravings, fine and historical prints, and early photography are some of the items we can help you sell. Generally, we do not feature 20th century material later than World War II. Nor do we accept material that is in poor condition; some minor flaws, foxing or marginal tears are acceptable. Condition may be less critical on significant and rare material.

Our commission rate is 15%. There is a minimum fee of $25.00 per lot, which is due even if the lot does not sell. There are no other charges for cataloging, research, storage or photography. You are responsible for shipment of the material to us, and in-transit insurance. In the event an item does not sell you are also responsible for return postage and insurance. You should maintain insurance of your items while they are in our possession, however we do maintain insurance on all items in our possession.

You may establish a reserve for any lot with an estimated value above $25. There is no fee for a reserve that is 75%, or less, of the estimated value. However, reserves set above 75% of low estimate are charged a reserve fee that is 10% of the reserve amount if the item does not sell.

The deadline for receipt of materials is three months in advance for the scheduled auction close date. Items must be in our possession for cataloging as we must be able to accurately describe condition.

Whether you have a single valuable piece or a major collection, please contact us to discuss your material. In order to evaluate the material we need at minimum the exact title, maker, circa date and condition (see condition guidelines). Please complete the following form and we will reply to your request as soon as possible. Feel free to write, fax, or call if you need additional information or would like to discuss specific items and dates.
