Copper engraved map of New Britain, the largest island of the Bismarck Archipelago in Papua New Guinea. Various insets including New Ireland. Based on findings of Captain Carteret’s voyage of 1766-1769, aboard HMS Swallow. Cook’s route (1st voyage) from New Holland to Batavia via the Endeavour Straits in 1770 is also shown. Engraved by Andre.
