Nice vellum leaf from an early French Bible. In Paris the birth of the Bible as we know it took place around 1200 and for the first time it was bound in a single volume; the order and names of the books were standardized and the text was divided up into numbered chapters. The scribes employed headings at the top of the page and used blue and red initials to mark the beginning of each chapter. The text is in two columns, in a very regular hand with 2 initials and penwork in red and blue. The name of the book is in red and blue letters at the top of the page.
