A lovely sea chart of the present-day Ilha de Sao Luis region along the coast for about 125 miles to the east. It is an early and detailed map of the delta area of the Amazon and Para rivers. The decorative chart is filled with rhumb lines, two compass roses with north to the bottom, and a sailing ship. The handsome title cartouche is flanked by four allegorical or mythical figures including Mercury and a bull, most likely Zeus, and three distance scales.
