Superb map of the famed Barbary coast, the Straight of Gibraltar, the Canary Islands and Madera. Ortelius compiled this map from various sources including Gastaldi and Livio Sanuto. The large inset map of the Congo is enclosed in a strapwork cartouche and was based on Pigafetta's map of 1591. Richly embellished with an elaborate title cartouche, sailing ships and a sea monster. Spanish text on verso with the page number 118, indicating it is from the 1602 edition.
