Bird's-eye view of the fort with Union Jack flying aloft. The French Fort Frederic, built in the 1730's, had been a thorn in the British side since its inception. During the French and Indian War the British attempted five times to capture the fort and expel the French from the region. General Amherst finally succeeded in 1759 and this view was published to illustrate that triumph to the British public. Engraved by Proud. Accompanied by a page from the magazine with a description of the fort.
