This rare bird's-eye plan of the seaside fortress includes a key to 32 important locations. The protected harbor hosts several sailing ships. The format emphasizes the layout of the city with buildings, churches, gardens, streets, walls, bridges and fortifications set within the context of the surrounding farms and marshes. This plan is from a series of Townbooks published by Jan Jansson after he acquired Braun & Hogenberg's plates of the seminal town view book, Civitates Orbis Terrarum. Jansson updated many of the original plates and added new views including this plan of Rochelle. Latin text on verso.
