Jansson's small map of the North Pole did not follow Mercator's cartography, but instead used the knowledge of the many recent explorations that attempted to locate a northern route to Asia. Several fictitious islands in the North Atlantic appear, including Frisland. The map is attractively adorned with a strapwork title cartouche. Titled in Dutch above map Beschryvinghe des Noorder-Pools, Dutch text on verso.
