This dramatic allegorical view of the daily lives of Laplanders portrays reindeer, whaling, drying fish, hunting bear and trading furs. In the foreground is a sled drawn by reindeer, two igloo-like houses, and a group of the native population worshipping a fearsome idol. In the background, a volcano spews flames, while Laplanders frolic before it. Drawn by Johann Degler and included in the Atlas Marianus volume of Scherer's atlas. Deftly engraved by Joseph a Montelegre.
