Based on the cartography of Blaeu, this charming map covers the coast from Sierra Leone to Gabon. The land is enhanced with elephants, lions, leopards and monkeys and the sea is decorated with sailing ships, a compass rose and rhumb lines. The title cartouche is surrounded by mermaids and sirens and the distance scale is engraved onto an ivory tusk.
