A beautiful cartouche crowns this rare, large-scale map of the heart of Russia. It covers from the White Sea to the Sea of Azov and from Lake Ladoga to the Kama and Volga River valleys. The map is filled with incredible detail and extensive notations locating cities, villages, salt mines, fortifications, castles, ruins, forests, and roads. Charles Price was an English mapmaker whose works were nearly all collaborative efforts in a succession of ill-fated partnerships that were not commercially successful. This map was sold by George Wieldey & Timothy Brandreth at the Archimedes & Globe in Ludgate Street, London. George Wiledey (aka Wildey), a spectacle and scientific instrument maker and a publisher, went on to become a notable toy maker.
