This handsome map of the Americas features the Independent Republic of Texas stretching north into today's Colorado. The Arrowsmith family were among the most respected and influential English cartographers of the nineteenth century. Their maps depicting Texas are of particular importance. In 1810, Aaron Arrowsmith created one of the outstanding maps of New Spain that included Texas. In 1841, John Arrowsmith published a key map of the Republic of Texas, which was the best depiction of Texas available in Europe during the period. The second state of that map also appeared in the London Atlas along with this map of America.
