This uncommon view of the infant city of Washington was drawn by George I. Parkyns, engraved by H. Roejing, and published in the Dutch translation of The Life of George Washington by John Marshall. Viewed from across the Potomac River with the government buildings scattered on the hills to the left and a cluster of buildings in Georgetown on the opposite bank, the engraving shows a still largely undeveloped city.
