This extremely rare chart illustrates part of the coastline of the Bay of Biscay with the mouth of the Garonne River and the city of Bordeaux. The city of Bordeaux was southern France's major Atlantic port and the hub of trade with the West Indies. The ships sailing in the bay attest to that importance and the grand title cartouche features several young noblemen with the spoils of their hunt.

The fine original color is highlighted in gold. Unfortunately the color beneath the cartouche has oxidized and damaged the paper with a couple fingernail size areas of loss. Other wise the map is in very good condition. It will benefit greatly from the attention of a professional conservator and the estimate takes that into consideration.
