Scarce sea chart centering roughly on the vicinity of Paramaribo. The chart is oriented with north at bottom by two compass roses. It is detailed with soundings, currents, shoals and anchorages with particular emphasis on the rivers. Paramaribo was a trading post started by the Dutch. The region changed hands often between the English and Dutch during the colonial era, prized for it's sugar and tobacco plantations. The map is richly embellished with rhumb lines, compass roses and sailing ships. The graphic title cartouche features a native with a bundle of sugar cane and the scales cartouche features a scene of natives trading with Europeans.
