This superb engraving is the frontispiece to an Italian edition of The Argonauts, the Greek mythological tale of the heroic quest for the Golden Fleece. Centered on a globe, on which the Argo sails and Pheme, the personification of fame and renown, it depicts numerous mathematical and cartographic instruments, including dials, quadrants, sectors, and telescopes.
