This map shows the location of stations, trading posts, and employee rosters working for the Alaska Commercial Company in 1888. Posts are located in the more remote coastline regions of the state including the Aleutian Islands and western Alaska where wide access to goods is more challenging. The Alaska Commercial Company was formed in 1868, shortly after the United States' purchase of the territory, and is still Alaska's largest rural retailer.
