This fascinating reference is a collection of all known documents involving the original Jamestown charter. These two volumes use the documents that authorized the voyage to Virginia, letters, reports, and first-hand narratives to provide a view of the dramatic early years of Jamestown colony (1606-09). Included within this set are two fold-out facsimiles: the Zuniga manuscript chart of the Chesapeake Bay and Tidewater region of Virginia and John Smith's map of Virginia with his accompanying description of the region. Edited by Philip L. Barbour and published by the Hakluyt Society, an organization founded in 1846 to publish primary narratives of various expeditions. Hardbound in blue cloth with gilt titles on the spines and gilt ships on the front covers, as well as dust jackets protected by Mylar sleeves. 524 pp. over two volumes.
