This fascinating sheet depicts the plans for a canal built to by-pass Trollhattan Falls, on the Gota Alv River. For centuries the falls had presented a navigational hazard for boats, so an engineering project to build a canal with sluices was initiated to circumvent the falls. A large bird's-eye view with a lettered key identifies the falls and various components to the canal system. At right are profile views of the sluices, and at bottom is a map of the Gota Alv River from lake Vanern into the Kattegat, at the city of Gothenburg.
