This detailed miniature bird's-eye plan of Havana includes a lettered key below the map identifying 14 locations. A note to the side of the map states: "As Jamaica secures the Windward Passage, and the Havana the Gulph of Florida, the possession of the Havana would not only facilitate our navigation in the W. Indian Seas, but likewise be a severe check upon the Spanish Guarda Costa's." The British finally succeeded in capturing Havana in 1762 during the Seven Years' War, but possessed the city for only one year before it was returned to Spain in the Treaty of Paris at the conclusion of the war. Text below the map describes Havana, Cuba, and the means by which Havana could be captured. On a full sheet of text measuring 5.1 x 8.1". Published in the March 1740 issue of Gentleman's Magazine.
