This sheet includes two engravings as described by Herodotus of Halicarnassus (c. 484–425 BC), known as the Father of History. The top image shows a bridge to Babylon, along with a description of its structure. The bottom image is a castle attributed to Semiramis, the legendary wife of King Ninus. This engraving was first published in the 1592 edition of Herodotus’ Histories, edited and printed by Henry II Estienne in Geneva. This example was included in a composite atlas of Braun & Hogenberg views.
