This lot includes two maps depicting islands in the Indian Ocean and East Indies. The first is an attractive map of the island chain southwest of Sri Lanka. It is decorated with rhumb lines, a large compass rose, and a fancy cartouche. The second delicately engraved map represents the western coast of Irian Jaya and the Maluku Islands, the famous Spice Islands that were the cornerstone of the Dutch trading empire in the East Indies. The map locates the settlements and forts on each island.

Both are nice impressions on watermarked paper with minor toning. There is a hint of soiling on the Maluku Islands sheet.
