Ortelius' great map of Luxembourg was based on the 1551 manuscript map of Jacques Surhon. The map had been suppressed for security reasons and it did not appear until 1579, when Antwerp was independent for a short time. The region is flanked by the Meuse and Moselle Rivers, and extends south to Metz and east to Trier. The map is finely detailed and beautifully decorated with a large title cartouche. Latin text on verso.
