This lot is comprised of identical base maps and, when put together, provide an intriguing historical comparison of the growth of this most famous railway. Originating in Chicago with the majority of the network in the Midwest, the line continues to Texas, the Southwest and the California coast. The Southwest provided the biggest draw for rail passengers with stops like the Grand Canyon and Santa Fe. The railroad lines are identified by bright red overprinting, and a legend indicates double tracks, projected tracks, spur tracks, and trackage rights. During this 8 year period, line growth appears to be concentrated in southwestern Kansas, Oklahoma, western Texas, and northern New Mexico.
