This map of northern South America is a late example showing the fabled Lake Parima, which had mostly disappeared from maps in the late 18th century and was officially disproved by Alexander von Humboldt's expedition through Latin America from 1799-1804. The map extends east along the coastline to the mouth of the Essequibo River, and is filled with detail of the river systems and mountain ranges in the region.
