This attractive bird's-eye view of Melinde harbor in Mozambique was engraved by William Rogers, printed by John Wolfe, and published in the English translation of Jan Juygen van Linschoten's Itinerario. It shows the fortifications with numerous ships flying the Portuguese standard at anchor in the protected harbor. The map is finely engraved and decorated with a large compass rose (orienting north to the right), the Portuguese coat of arms, and an ornate title cartouche.

A crisp impression. Margins have been trimmed close to neatline and map has been backed with a sheet of tissue to provide support and margins. There is light soiling concentrated at the top of the map.
