This is a later edition of this handsome map of North America. "Gold Regions" are located in Colorado, California, and just north of the Washington-Canada border. Population figures are given for cities, and the lengths of rivers are shown. There are plenty of Indian tribes named, and missionary stations are located. A 1980 mile-long Ocean Telegraph is noted off the coast of Newfoundland. Exploration notes in the Arctic include N.W. Passage accomd. by Capt. McClure 1852 and Dr. Kane's farthest North Point is 519 miles distant from the Pole. Drawn by J.H. Young and engraved by E. Yeager. There are two small double hemisphere world maps on verso.
