This rare Swedish map of North America was engraved by Stockholm-based mapmaker E. Akerland. It delineates the 24 states that existed at the time of publication as well as the Florida, Arkansas, Missouri, Northwest, and Oregon territories. The Southwest, including California and Texas, is still part of Mexico. Two fictitious lakes, Timpanogos and Tegujo, appear just west of the Rockies and are linked by a river to the San Francisco Bay. A color key at bottom identifies the colonial holdings of England, France, Spain, the Netherlands, and Denmark. An inset at bottom left zooms in on New England.
