A. Soil Map Louisiana New Orleans Sheet, by U.S. Geological Survey, dated 1903, printed color (31.5 x 18.5"). A colorful geological map of the city that was issued in the 5th Report of the Field Operations of the Bureau of Soils, under the direction of Milton Whitney. The map has a legend identifying the various soil profiles including "muck" which takes up much of the region adjacent to Lake Pontchartrain. In addition to the soil types, the map shows the street grid pattern of the city, railroads, drainage, and more. Condition: There is some minor color offsetting and a few spots of foxing. (B+)
B. Map of the City of New Orleans and Vicinity, by A.H. Guillot & L.J. Adam, dated 1925, printed color (28.2 x 20.1"). A detailed map showing the street grid pattern of the city with an index along the right and left sheet edges. Includes a legend showing street car lines and bus lines. On the northern end of the city is a "City Park Extension" and a “Lake Shore Development” of reclaimed (muck) land adjacent to Lake Pontchartrain. Folds into cream paper wrappers (4.5 x 8.0") with 12 pages of related text. Condition: On a clean, bright sheet with a bit of adhesive residue in the bottom left corner of the sheet where it was adhered to the rear wrapper. (A)
C. Map of Greater New Orleans. Louisiana, by William E. Boesch, circa 1934, black & white (28.1 x 20.5"). An especially detailed map issued about a decade later showing the street grid pattern of the city, property ownership, and various subdivisions. Only the small portion of the Lake Shore Development north of the Park Extension shows a street grid. Folds into orange paper wrappers (4.0 x 9.0") with 16 pages of text. Condition: Issued folding on a bright sheet with some tiny loss along two folds. (B+)
