Large, finely engraved map of the southern part of South America with great topographical detail and notations throughout. The tracks of Magellan, Sarmiento, Brower, Beauchesne, Sharp, Sr. de la Roche, Halley and Vespucci and Amerigo Vespucci's ship is shown sailing in the Atlantic. Northeast of Tierra del Fuego is the mythical Pepys Island, which was fabricated by William Hacke to please Samuel Pepys, the secretary of the British Admiralty. The title cartouche features the Notus (the south wind) and Native American figures.

A nice impression on a bright sheet with a small medallion watermark and very light soiling. The original top margin is narrow (3/16") but adequate for framing and there are a couple tissue repairs on edge tears.
