This lot includes three sheets, each with nine plans or views. The first sheet includes plans and views related to the War of Spanish Succession during the years 1702 and 1703. It shows Hulst, Stollhofen, Rheinberg, Bonn, a stretch of the Scheldt River near Antwerp, the Danube around Dillingen, Huy, Limbourg, and Geldern. The second sheet focuses on the fortifications in the German towns of Mainz, Augsburg, Saarlouis, Heilbron, Frankfurt, Mannheim, Bonn, and Freiburg im Breisgau. It also includes a plan of Basel, Switzerland. The third sheet covers fortifications along the Rhine in Hunningen, Breisach, Hagenau, Fort-Louis, Strasbourg, Landau, Koblenz, Philippsburg, and Rheinfels Castle. These are remarkable and rarely seen issues, even more rarely found printed in sepia ink, as with this example.
