This detailed bird's-eye view is based on Claes Janszoon Visscher's depiction of Jerusalem, one of the most popular plans of the ancient walled city during the seventeenth century. While it is imaginary, it provides great detail of the city walls and streets, with 40 principal sites numbered and keyed to a table in a cartouche at bottom left. Biblical scenes are shown on the hillside in the foreground including the crucifixion. Solomon's Temple is at upper center, and Herod's Palace is located at the far left. Dutch text on verso.

Condition: B+

A nice impression, issued folding with archival repairs to some small holes and separations along the folds and to a 2" tear at left. The bottom margin has been extended with old paper, with a tiny portion of the neatline at center replaced in facsimile. Light damp stains in the top margin just pass the neatline.

Estimate: $200 - $230
