A. Carte de l'Egypte Ancienne et Moderne, Dressee sur Plusieurs Cartes Manuscrites, Assujeties aux Observations... (12.3 x 17.5"). Handsome map of the Nile River from the Mediterranean down to Aswan and including the Red Sea. Caravan routes are shown, as well as the domains of desert tribes. There is a fascinating note of a Crocodilopolis near Akmin. The city is now known as Faiyum, but apparently the ancient inhabitants paid particular reverence to the local crocodiles. The decorative cartouche features a waterfall and crocodile. Condition: Contemporary outline color on watermarked paper with minor toning and a few spots of foxing. (B+)
B. Nubie et Abissinie. Projettee et Assujettie aux Observations Astronomiques (16.3 x 11.7"). Attractive map covering northeastern Africa, the Red Sea, and part of Arabia. A number of kingdoms and tribes are named in the region of present-day Egypt, Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia, and Eritrea. A notation in the bottom left corner states that many emeralds are supposedly in these mountains. Adorned by a decorative title cartouche and four distance scales. Condition: Contemporary outline color on watermarked paper with faint offsetting. (A)
