Handsome map of the Leeward and Windward Islands between Puerto Rico and South America. North is oriented to the left as indicated by the beautiful compass roses. All of the major islands are named, as are several very tiny ones. The ornate title cartouche includes Poseidon and his entourage of cherubs and nereids. The map is further embellished with a native holding the scale of miles, a sea monster, and several sailing ships.

Condition: A

Nice impression with contemporary color in the map and later color in the decorative elements. Fine except for some minor edge tears well away from the map in the very wide original margins.
