This engraving centers on a reduced-size version of August Christian Fleischmann's plan of ancient Jerusalem, based on the work of Christian Adrichom, which was published in 1584 and remained the definitive layout of the city until archaeological discoveries during the nineteenth century. The plan is oriented to the north with the camps of the historic city's invaders just outside the city walls, and the ancient City of David and Mt. Sion in the south. Surrounding the plan of Jerusalem are a dozen engravings depicting an ornate elevation of the Temple of Solomon, high priests, a menorah, the Ark of the Covenant, the altar of sacrifices, and the Tabernacle.
On this example, the plate appears to have been separated into two pieces with the bottom row of engravings printed slightly offset from the remainder of the plate.
