Bold map of the Caspian Sea and the immediate surroundings. A central compass rose orients this map with north to the left. The name of this important sea is shown in several languages and a passage of text is included from the classical geographer Pomponius Mela. The major trading ports and roads are well depicted. The title cartouche is embellished with a fierce-looking warrior, cherubs, and Libra holding a sword and scales.

A sharp impression with contemporary color in the map and later color in the cartouche. There is light soiling and foxing around the edges of the sheet.
