In addition, a business index lists vendors by category, including 5 mapmakers. A separate Pasadena section begins on p. 891. Illustrations of note include a folding view of Santa Clara College, the first college in California, a view of Mt. Shasta, and a two-sided colored advertisement for wagons by the A.W. Sanborn & Co. The completeness of information in the directory provides a remarkable snapshot of a vibrant Los Angeles in 1888 when its population was less than 50,000.
