This attractive and uncommon sea chart depicts the southern part of South America, spanning from the Rio de la Plata to Tierra del Fuego, showing the straits of Magellan and Le Maire. The western coastline of Magallanica is conjectural. Place names line the coasts, but there is no inland information. The sea is crisscrossed by rhumb lines and decorated with a galleon and compass rose capped with a fleur-de-lis. The ornate strapwork title cartouche at top features allegorical figures, penguins, and a lion. Putti with navigational tools flank the distance scale cartouche at bottom right.
