This mammoth map (33 x 33") depicting the theater of war in Asia was issued in the "Newsmap" for Monday, November 29, 1943, covering the news from November 18-25, 1943 - the 220th week of the war. The map possesses a three-dimensional quality and extends from the Persian Gulf to the Bering Sea and south to Australia. A note below states it is oriented with north to the right to provide a "thought-provoking view of the tremendous areas involved as our offensive to the final target, Japan, gets under way." Accompanying it is an update on the various war fronts and a small map of Berlin. On verso is a graphic depiction of an American stabbing a German soldier with an axe along with text emphasizing the need to keep military information secure, concluding that personnel should "be careful what you say or write!"
From 1942-46, the U.S. Army published "newsmaps" to keep American troops updated on the war. These weekly posters were distributed and posted in every American installation in the world and were intentionally more visual than descriptive to help engage and motivate personnel.
