This detailed folio covers the San Francisco Bay area including San Francisco, Tamalpais, Concord, San Mateo, and Hayward. It was part of the Geological Survey's project to make a complete geological atlas of the United States. There are 15 total maps divided into three groups: topography (5), geology (5), and structure sections (5). Of particular interest is the topographical map covering the cities of San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, and the Marin Headlands and the geological maps with vivid colors. The volume includes a 24-page "Description of the San Francisco District" by Andrew Larson and a full page of photographic illustrations of the region. Produced under the direction of George Otis Smith. Elephant folio.
