This pictorial view of Aspen Mountain was drawn by celebrated ski map artist Hal Shelton (1916-2004), who worked for the U.S. Geological Survey (1938-49) before entering the private sector as both an artist and cartographer. Drawn with a natural three-dimensional perspective, the map presents the numerous trails and lifts as of 1965, with a table at right indicating 8 lifts in operation. Text at top right promotes the mountain with "a network of lifts and trails unequalled in America." The verso includes additional information on Buttermilk Mountain, Snowmass-at-Aspen (which would open with lift service in 1967), and lift ticket pricing. At the time of publication, an annual pass cost $175 (which is less than the single-day price in 2021). The full sheet measures approximately 16 x 18" and self-folds into pictorial wrappers (4.0 x 9.0").
