This attractive and detailed Japanese map of the world was produced by Ishida Shouga Dou and centers on the Pacific Ocean. Each continent is highlighted in a different color, though Indonesia, the Philippines, and smaller Pacific Islands are grouped with Australia (which here is also called New Holland). Greenland is colored differently from North America. The coastlines are densely packed with place names, while the interiors feature only rivers and lakes. Text at bottom (filling Antarctica) includes descriptions of the climate and seasons of various regions of the world. The map is surrounded by a decorative border featuring various national flags with Japan's flag at top center. Self-folding with yellow paper wrappers (3.6 x 5.5").
