This exquisite armillary sphere depicts the solar system surrounded by the signs of the zodiac. The sphere sits atop an elaborate rococo base garlanded with flowers. Panels of descriptive French text flank the chart, and are then surrounded in a decorative border that was printed from a separate plate. Drawn and engraved by Simon J. Martinet, with his imprint at the base of the sphere.
