Published in 1974 by the City of Liverpool Public Relations Office, this cartoon tourist map highlights the city's most famous hometown heroes: the Beatles. Designed by Stan McCaffrey and Jim Sharp, much of the artwork nods to George Dunning's iconic work on the psychedelic animated film Yellow Submarine (1968), with the titular vessel appearing in the River Mersey. The map was issued 4 years after the band broke up and focuses on sites of interest to Beatles' fans, including their former homes, the schools they attended, Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields (an orphanage), and Litherland Town Hall (the site of their first gig). Each of the Fab Four's birthplaces is marked by a stork carrying a baby version of each member. While the map celebrates the Beatles past, the ultimate goal of Liverpool's PR office was to establish the city as tourist destination, and this map became the first "official" souvenir of the city. A charming piece of Beatles memorabilia.
