This promotional double-hemispheric map of the world was created by McCormick & Company in Baltimore, Maryland. It shows the "ancient spice routes, present sources of spices and herbs, 99 flags of the world in color and an encyclopedia of spices, herbs, teas coffee, and extracts." The map is a wonderful blend of history and promotion and features both illustrations and the tracks of notable explorers including Columbus, Vasco da Gama, Drake, and Magellan. Of particular importance to McCormick, the map also names and locates spices found throughout the world, with a large percentage originating in Asia. The corners of the map further emphasize McCormick's trade with illustrations showing the harvesting of various beans, teas, and spices. The map is surrounded by national flags, and three McCormick Schilling headquarters are pictured in the cusp at bottom. The map is further embellished by classical decorative elements including wind heads, sailing ships, a compass rose, and the signs of the zodiac. The verso contains "McCormick's Encyclopedia of Flavoring Extracts - Spices - Teas- Coffees" and company information. Self-folds into pictorial wrappers (8.7 x 11.6").
