This intricately detailed map on 5 sheets follows the Rhine River from Basel, Switzerland to Landau, Germany. Loops, oxbows, branches and islands along the river are depicted, many of which were removed in later centuries to improve the navigability of the river. The surrounding region is also shown in detail, including cities (depicted as miniature bird's-eye plans), villages, individual houses, roads, pathways, forests, fields, and topography. The maps are all oriented with north to the right, and the rococo title cartouche is on the northernmost sheet. Each sheet is dissected and mounted on contemporary linen with a printed bookseller's label (a Tournay Chez Deflinne Libraire) on verso. The maps fold into a marbled slipcase (7.2 x 7.5") with the bookseller's label. Size is for each sheet; if joined together, the map would measure approximately 101 x 28.3".

Nice impressions with contemporary outline color on bright sheets with light soiling. The slipcase is worn, sunned, and has a few short edge tears. The first image is a composite image of two of the sheets - the map is in 5 separate sheets.
