This pair of engravings depict the various types of costumes worn in China. The first folio sheet features a three-panel engraving of the Chinese Emperor flanked by two of his lovely concubines. The engravings are particularly interesting because they depict the elaborate interior furnishings of the palace and fine clothing of the royal class. The second folio sheet features a large and nicely drawn view of a bridge in Xensi Province enclosed in a very decorative picture-frame style border. The view is surrounded below and at the sides with eleven vignettes showing the people of the various provinces of China. Each sheet includes panels of French text to accompany the engravings.
